Chair of The International Association for the Measurement and Evaluation of Communications and Co-managing Partner for CARMA

Richard is the the chair of global communications evaluation professional association, AMEC, and co-managing partner for CARMA, a leading global provider of communications evaluation and media intelligence services. Richard has advised international clients on the best ways to measure the effectiveness of their PR for more than 28 years. During this time, he has built and led some of the world’s foremost communications measurement consultancies, including Metrica, Gorkana and PRIME Research. Prior to his career in measurement and insights, Richard was a PR himself, having worked both in house and agency.

Richard is a long-term member of the UK Government’s Cabinet Office Evaluation Council which he has advised for over 9 years. He co-authored the UK government’s Capability Review of Digital Communications. The review looked at how digital communication is planned, executed and measured throughout Government and the review made a number of recommendations on how to improve the process which were accepted and implemented.  At AMEC, Richard led the work creating both the social media measurement frameworks and the subsequent Integrated Evaluation Framework. The Integrated Evaluation Framework is now acknowledged as global best communications measurement practice having been translated into 22 languages. Richard has contributed to several published business books on measuring communications, he is a Fellow of the PRCA, an Honorary Lifetime Fellow of AMEC and was inducted into the USA’s PR News’ Measurement Hall of Fame in 2017. In 2022 Richard’s contribution to the PR and Comms sector was recognised with the award of both the CIPR’s President’s Medal and AMEC’s Don Bartholomew Award, their highest honours.
